Applied Psychology.
Activism as Deviance.
|
The essay. In the AP psychology course I took this year, as a part of the fire project we were asked to write an essay applying what we had learned this year on the issue we had chosen, in my case deforestation, and to reflect on what our thoughts were about psychology after learning some of the basics.
I focused on environmental psychology, where what surrounds us affect the way we act. I did some research and it turns out that when there is a huge macro scale issue, people are concerned about, those who decide to act on it and attempt to fix the issue become discouraged by thinking and assuming that their effort was worthless. |
Thoughts and takeaways of the course.
This course was my favorite this year. Every chapter was more interesting than the last. I learned the basic functions of the brain and why we react to things the way we do. In simpler terms studying the human mind gave me an insight of myself and literally everyone around me.
Activism as Deviance.
As another part of this project we were asked to break some norms while spreading the importance of the issue of our choice.
I dressed up as a tree and help a whiteboard that read, "You can't replant an ecosystem." That whole day people asked me what it was for, if something was wrong, or if i was having a bad day. Many said that it was possible to replant an ecosystem, I replied with "think about it." and they said "it would just take a really long time."
But by them the forests we have now that we ARE able to save aren't thought about.
