Root Causes continued...
In an article relating to deforestation by Union of Concerned Scientists, it read, “many recent scientific studies show that large, commercial agriculture and timber enterprises are the principal agents of tropical deforestation, which is responsible for about 10 percent of global warming pollution worldwide.” In an article written by Nathalie Fiset, she writes, “Deforestation and forest degradation occur in response to policy, market and institutional signals. It is the result of the interaction of many environmental, economic, social, cultural and political conditions in any given region.”

We Forest, an organization that devotes itself to planting trees and has so far planted around 12,753,439 trees wrote an article on root causes of deforestation. It said the most extreme levels of deforestation “have occurred within the boundaries of the poorest nations on earth.” It also said that this destruction is having devastating consequences, and “it is widely recognized that it is the poorest of the poor who will suffer the greatest impact.”
